So here we are starting a new month! That means we owe you a pattern review:
This past October there has been a beautiful series in Sewpony's and Straight Grain's blog: I (heart) Marcel Marlier which had as theme sewing some beautiful clothes inspired in those vintage illustrations we have grown up with.
My blog mate Rita tested the latest pattern from Suz (Sewpony): "The Sunday Picnic Dress" which I'm sure you are all seing around the blogs! Well, the thing is my daughter ended up being the model for this photo shoot and I kindly received as a present the Debbie's Birthday Dress, also from Sewpony :-) This dress is PURE Marcel Marlier, so... we kind of join that series and use it for this monthly pattern review!
Possible versions of the pattern. The pattern actually contains 2 dresses. So you will get 2 dresses for the price of 1. View 1 has a separate bodice with trim, and view 2 has a peter pan collar and a central seam. Both views are A-lined style.
Moreover, Debbie's Birthday Dress, is a super classical one, so you can play around with the fabric to get many different looks of a wardrobe staple.
I went for view 1, in a light blue wool. For the trim, I used one with a floral embroidery and sewed it on top of a saumon bias tape to play around a bit with the colours. I also used a white pipping to accent that front bodice.
Assembling the pattern. There are quite a few pages to assemble, but once you have the pieces of the pattern cut, you will only need to work with 4 or 5 pieces.
Tutorial. Full of pictures and very detailed. Really easy to follow.
Details. I love seeing the seams and inside of the patterns look professional. Sewing for hobby but feeling I look quite pro with the things I do for my baby makes me feel veeeery good.
Final Result. This is for sure the most important part! Have a look at the pictures below, and tell us what you think about the fit ;-). In my opinion, Blanca looks great!
